Faradena Afifi

Community Based T’ai Chi Practitioner/Instructor, Community Musician and Performer

Faradena Afifi (Fara) is a late diagnosed autistic with ADHD and dyslexia. She is a British Afghani multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, composer and T’ai Chi Chuan practitioner and teacher. Her time is spent equally between T’ai Chi, meditation and music practise.

Fara specialises in teaching T’ai Chi Chuan classes that focus on improving balance, co-ordination and strength. She has previously taught children with neurodivergence and specialises in working with adults with health conditions. She currently teaches T’ai Chi and Nature days at a local nature reserve. She teaches classes online and locally (East Cambridgeshire).

In her music role, Fara works as a soloist or in collaboration with sound recordists, musicians, artists, dancers and poets. Her music is expressed through movement, meditation and the natural world; often using birdsong as part of the experience.

She has recently been exploring the intersection between T’ai Chi Chuan and music in terms of shape and movement and looking at nature with sound.

Fara is the co-founder, facilitator and co-ordinator of The Noisy Women Present, an award winning intentionally diverse, intersectional mixed arts collective. She is active on both the free improvisation and folk scene. She has recently founded an intersectional pop up wellbeing art and music events duo specialising in platforming hidden talent with Farah Egby and is working towards organising her first weekend folk festival. Fara is a long term community and street musician specialising in working and performing with non verbal adults with complex needs.
