Jo Roberts

Independent SEND Consultant & Family Advocate

Jo Roberts is mum to kiddo, aged 7, AuDHD PDA and currently not in school. As a former teacher and school leader, qualified Senior Mental Health Lead, Independent SEND Consultant and Advocate, and late-diagnosed AuDHDer, Jo works nationally to support families and professionals across SEND, mental health and education. As such, she has lived experience of “the system” as both professional and parent, including personal experience of repeated cycles of autistic burnout and supporting her son through burnout linked to unmet needs and systemic pressures.

Through her speaking and campaigning, she challenges systemic unlawfulness and one-size-fits-all policy; champions neurodivergence and child-centred approaches; and advocates for neuro-affirming, trauma-informed education reform that is lawful, ethical and genuinely child-centred. Her work is informed not only by professional expertise, but by direct experience of the pressures, barriers and burnout that arise when systems fail to meet need.

Jo also delivers neuro-affirming, trauma-informed training and outreach support to educational settings, schools and non-education organisations to develop community understanding of neurodivergence, mental health, trauma and disability and promote support for children, young people and families throughout.
